About Me

Having completed my Yoga Alliance Accredited RYT-500 hour yoga teacher training and a month's apprenticeship with an Ashtanga teacher in Bali, I have grown to become a passionate yoga teacher and trainer, dedicated to encouraging and inspiring people to be the best they can be through movement, breath, wellness, diet and a holistic approach to life. I enjoy seeing my students progress physically, mentally and emotionally as they journey with me.

I currently teach yoga students to become confident yoga teachers alongside my partner Steve Hall through Asia Pacific Yoga, a Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga School that provides small group sized 200 Hour and 300 Hour Hatha Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Trainings in New Zealand.

I have been practicing yoga for more than 10 years and currently have a very strong daily Ashtanga practice. I am currently teaching the traditional Ashtanga Mysore style classes, Vinyasa Flow, Hatha and Restorative classes at my local yoga studio, private business and home premises.

Of all the styles, Ashtanga Yoga is my favourite. Astanga is a style of yoga involving the synchronisation of the breath with a progressive set series of postures. This style of yoga, which is the same anywhere in the world, produces internal heat, resulting in a detoxifying sweat, improved circulation, a light and strong body and a calm mind.

 

The term Mysore style comes from the city Mysore in India where Ashtanga originates. Students are expected to memorise a set sequence and practice at their own pace. My role as a teacher is to guide as well as provide adjustments or assists students in postures, wherever they are in their practice.

 

I am also a certified Les Mills BODYBALANCE™ instructor, a group fitness programme that combines Yoga, Tai Chi and Pilates. Les Mills BODYBALANCE™ is taught in 100 countries around the world. My BODYBALANCE™ class will begin with easy, flowing Tai Chi moves, followed by various Yoga and Pilates sequences to balance, strengthen and tone key muscle groups. The class winds down with stretches to encourage suppleness and flexibility and a lovely 10 minutes meditation that leaves my participants calm and centered.

Besides teaching, I run an online business Shantihi, founded in 2017, a company producing yoga products to help people find peace in their yoga practice. 

 

I am happy to provide private yoga classes for businesses, organisations or private groups. My strength would be the calmness and grace and that I bring to my classes. Many of my students have told me that my yin and restorative classes are one of the best they’ve experience.

I constantly attend Les Mills’ quarterly instructor workshops up in Auckland to keep myself updated and skilled with the latest releases.

SaraFernando Ashtanga Yoga in Canggu, Bali   

2016

Became an apprentice / assistant for Fernando Pacheco (KPJAYI authorised Level 1) and Sara Stangertz (KPJAYI authorised Level 2) which includes 100 hours of ashtanga asana practice, lectures, private tuitions and hands on adjustment in Bali. I am looking to continue the Parampara course for another 150 hours.
